I heck care the critics!

Although Z has admitted to me that he is a wide-screen noob, it is not his fault that we got to watch only 2nd-rated sort of movie. Movie distributors and cinemas are the ones to blame. Too little quality options and too many misleading bombastic hypes for lower-ranking ones are making it extremely difficult for budget-restrained cheapos and their weekend-movie sponsors to pick a really worthwhile movie for an occasional outing. Viewers are insecure but unaware that watching too much this sort of mediocre movies actually degenerate their ability to evaluate and benefit from a movie. Ok, ok, you might say that I am a serious freak because movies are always meant for entertainment. But Man! Money critically matters to me. If I have to pay money or have others pay for me to watch a movie, I definitely go for both meaningful-and-entertaining movie rather than wasting time on watching a brainless laughing stock. That’s also a very reason my mom calls me cheapo. Actually, the reality is not that bad because no matter how dreadful the movie is, I always find a point to enjoy it that sometimes, I think I have not watched any bad movie at all. Of course, there are still cases that beyond redemption. So movie standard is quite relative. To say if a movie is good or not depends very much on what aspect you are talking about. For example


D.O.A: obviously, many people can tell that it should have been released in form of family video rather than wide-screen movie at a very second when they look at a poster. And it’s truly is. No thrilling storyline, no characterization, and no brain matter have been spotted throughout the entire script. It is all about flesh, kick, punch, sexy girls running around semi-naked (please distinguish “semi-naked” from “half-naked” in order not to get horny unnecessarily. These two terms are totally different) and more and more fighting. My brother would strangle me to death if he had ever known I paid 8 bucks to watch this movie. BUT somehow I am willing to watch this movie again provided that I only have to pay less or don’t pay at all. BECAUSE, it has terrific action scenes with signature martial arts of Made-in Hollywood movies which is visibly a hybrid of Chinese martial arts and TNA wrestling. Besides, I have never ever seen a girl wearing bra while fighting with muscular men. Extremely sexy and cool!


The Prestige: this movie clarifies many questionable points. Firstly, adults are still very childish when they cannot forgive the others and literally go nuts trying to take revenge on the others. It’s all part of human nature so this point needs no further elaboration. Secondly, we are all psychology and curiosity driven by magicians. Their technique is not as important as how they grow their viewer’s curiosity and trap it in the twist and turn of their tricks. Lastly, magic tricks are top secret that to all the viewers who had fat hope that they will learn to do some tricks after the show, please give up and better seed your hope somewhere else. When the storyline reaches the point that strictly requires some professional revelation, movie makers awkwardly resorts to unfeasible solution (physically and mentally identical double) and super-natural device (human photo copy machine). Hugh Jackman seems to be deemed to act best in those partly flight-of-the- imagination movies but he pulls it off excellently with his gentlemanly rendition. One word for Prestige: excellent acting and thrilling storyline.


The Devil wears Prada: I was surprised that an experienced first-class actress Meryl Streep accepted the invitation to act in this movie unless she was a fan of either the novel or the brand. In fact, she is fan of neither. I don’t know how good the novel is (I heard it is a best-selling so I bet it must be good) but the movie literally drifted away, evaporated and dispersed into the air once it processed to the back of my brain. What was left was: branded clothes, brandwhores, and soon-to-be brandwhores. The lack of field to showcase actors’ talent has phenomenally turned out to be an exciting challenge for the actress to meet. Talented actresses like Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway have made best use of it to show of their unrivaled charisma and quality. So did the brand name, Prada.


Death Note: It is a disgrace to all fans of this manga. Whoever said that L is cooler in the movie and the alteration is better than the original deserves some spanks in the ass and a sufficient dose of poison to end their life of ignorance. I am very sorry but I cannot find any point to redeem this failure. Ah yeah, I enjoy it as much as watching people cosplaying Death Note. Most of L-cosplayers usually end up looking like suffering from mental disorder.


The host: this is a reply from Korean movie makers to American industry saying that “You think that only you can make special-effect-studded action movie. Wrong! Korean can make that too and even lift it to a higher level of reflecting current world issues other than blood and kill.” But incapable of escaping from money-minded yet clever Asian mindset, Korean movie makers thought that “Since I have already invested so much in this movie, why don’t I make it multi-genre so everybody regardless of personal interest would have something to look up for in the movie”. And they squeezed up all genres that could be found in contemporary Korean movie inside “The Host” from comedy, tragedy, scientific to action. It was quite greedy of them but in a way, it gives The Host a special trait that has never been seen before throughout massive Asian movie industry. And it succeeded in making me feel 8 bucks I paid was very worthwhile. Cheapoism prevails!
